Before choosing the dedicated hosting look at your site, if it is a large and busy site then surely choose dedicated but if it is small and is a personal site then I will not prefer it for you.

But finally if you choose a dedicated server then you are the sole in charge and no sharing partner. Here you get privilege over software and hardware installed on the server. But here also you can not go beyond the maximum bandwidth you are provided. If your site is a busy one then uploading and downloading will be very easy.

Choosing a dedicated server will prove to be of good speed for the site users as page will appear with in fraction of seconds as it will be browsed.

But choosing a web host only and only depends upon the need of a site owner. So move for a reliable host after its rating, for facing no problems and head-aches in future.
